Lesson

This lesson uses the Chanukah story as a backdrop to orienting learners to important terminology to civic education:

  • bullying
  • antisemitism
  • upstander
  • bystander
  • ally
  • majority
  • minority

Learners will engage in text study, take their turn at some drama activities, and experience multi-media triggers (songs and videos) in order to explore how Shining A Light on their Jewish joy can help them publicly display their Judaism and engage allies in any instance of antisemitism.  The lesson culminates in a craft activity to synthesize the learning.
