Daniel Rechtschaffen created a framework to think about mindfulness in terms of 5 literacies:
physical,
mental,
emotional,
social and
global.
This workbook explores each of the 5 literacies and provides a variety of practical activites with clear directions for each activity. In additiion, each literacy activtiy comes with an explicit rationale detailing the benefits of doing that acitivity.
Temple Beth Sholom, Roslyn, NY. Learners in grades 1-6 are paired. A child in an older grade serves as a mentor for a child in a younger grade. The pairs, Yedidim (friends/buddies) live Jewish life together and share everyday experiences.
Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York. Learners of different ages are integrated into four tribes and engage in immersive activities to learn about Jewish values. Tribes is facilitated by teens (tribal chiefs).
Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester, Rye, NY. Intergenerational teams consisting of two adults and one teen serve as learning facilitators for four or five 6th or 7th grade students.
Temple Judea, Tarzana, CA. Nisayon includes week-long camp experiences, family programming, and parallel adult education. Annual content themes are paired with activities like music, dance, drama, and krav maga.
