Step 1

Ask students in advance to bring something that represents what makes Shabbat special to them or is a highlight of their Shabbat (e.g., food, game, activity, song)

Step 2

Split the students into groups of 4–5 and have them share with each other what they brought and why they chose that object

Step 3

Hand out a few primary sources and have each group discuss what their objects have in common with the primary sources. They can also share if there is anything else they find compelling or resonant in the primary sources

Step 4

Bring the class back together and have each group share something that came up in their group

Step 5

Play charades or Pictionary based on the objects students brought and shared
