Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the most holy days in the Jewish calendar. In communities in which the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has worked, the organization has facilitated the celebration of Jewish holidays. Especially in times of displacement and economic hardship, JDC has shipped food, wine, ritual items, and holiday supplies to enable the observance of the Jewish High Holidays. Along with physical relief, JDC has placed a priority on responding to spiritual needs. This gallery of photos can be used to show similarities and differences in the ways that various Jewish communities observe the holidays.

All photos presented in this gallery are from the digitized online collection of the JDC Archives. They focus on communities that have received JDC support and assistance. Additional photos on this topic may be found on the JDC Archives website and by searching its online database.
