Speaking Words of Truth: A Prophetic Voice & Haftarah Curriculum
This curriculum guide aims to introduce b’nei mitzvah aged students to the values, lessons, and ethics of the prophets as captured in the canon of weekly haftarah readings. As students encounter different prophetic voices from haftarot, they develop skills to be independent interpreters of haftarah. Learning is broken into five units: foundations for study, speaking up for justice, belonging to the Jewish people, being in relationship with God, and conclusions. Throughout the curriculum, students connect the ancient voices of the prophets with modern voices and themselves, culminating in writing a d’var haftarah to teach at their b’nei mitzvah or elsewhere.
