Getting Beyond “Oh No, Not Parents...”- 

Presented by: Yonina Lermer

Teaching is great...except sometimes dealing with parents can make things challenging. In this workshop, we will learn WHY it is so important and crucial to establish positive relationships with the parents of our students, PRACTICAL things teachers can recommend to parents to help ease school stress at home and examples of actual talking points to use when communicating with parents about important issues that often come up i.e. homework, behavioral challenges etc. That's right - let the parent helicopter park outside the classroom.

Civil Discourse and Machloket: How Can We Use Jewish Wisdom to Help Our Learners Disagree Meaningfully? 

Presented by: Samantha Vinokor-Meinrath

Using Jewish wisdom and contemporary dilemmas that we and our learners face, this session will explore tools and best practices for empowering students to disagree in healthy and respectful ways. In a time when our society is increasingly polarized, healthy disagreement and dialogue is a learned skill that we can foster and encourage. This session will offer ways to do so, and allow us to engage in thought leadership about how to model this for our learners. It will provide examples grounded in Jewish wisdom that can be applied in secular and Judaic learning environments to answer universal dilemmas.

Hebrew Language: Moving from Performance to Proficiency

Presented by: Hebrew at the Center

In this session, we will address the common challenge of students that can speak Hebrew in their classrooms, but once they step outside, they cannot carry on even a simple conversation. To address this challenge, it is important to understand the difference and relationship between language performance and language proficiency. While the session will focus on this concept, the majority of the time will be dedicated to exploring tools to help move students from performance to being able to use Hebrew in authentic day-to-day situations.

Modeling Authentic Learning: A Collaborative Classroom with Sefaria

Presented by: Sara Wolkenfeld and Justin Goldstein

What does learning Torah look like? How do you discover new meaning in ancient sefarim? When teachers and students align around the process of learning, they become collaborators in the activity of exploring, decoding, and interpreting Torah. In this interactive, hands-on workshop, we will reflect on our own learning practices and play with Sefaria as a platform to engage in and model authentic Torah learning. Field research in classrooms and new digital technologies, combined with traditional methods of learning new content and skills, will provide a space for thinking about collaboration as an engagement tool for your students.

Anxiety 101- WORKSHOP FULL

Presented by: Eve Goldschlag

At the conclusion of this workshop, you will be able to implement several new

strategies for managing anxiety in the classroom. You will learn to recognize anxiety in yourself

and to have 2 or 3 simple practices that you can put to use in your classroom on a daily basis.

In addition, you will learn how anxiety shows up in children and we will practice how to support

students with anxiety.

Multiplication Matters- WORKSHOP FULL

Presented by: David Seay

This session will focus on solidifying and preventing the decay of multiplication skills.  The presentation will feature a multi-pronged approach. Teachers will learn new games and engaging activities that build multiplication proficiency, speed, and capacity.  Additionally, we will identify areas where multiplication proficiency is necessary and can be reinforced and we will learn how to build a classroom structure and culture that promotes skills mastery.

Join us for this interactive and hands-on workshop for grades ECE-3rd grade where you will see how easy it is to blend Torah stories, mitzvot and Jewish values and holidays to science, technology, engineering and math. With little to no investment of money, you can easily modernize your lessons, create fun, engaging and collaborative learning experiences for your students. All participants will receive a copy of the JSTEM Manual and goodies to take with and start engaging in JSTEM immediately in your classrooms.

Jigzi Sheli: Creative Ways to Teach Hebrew and Make Game Based Assessments 

Presented by: Anat Goodman

Use the all new Jigzi "create" tool to build game-based assessments in the Hebrew Classroom. Together we will get to know Jigzi and look at how students can access this tailored tool for scaffolded Hebrew learning and sharing.

Saying Yes, And: Bringing Improv and Theater Games into Your Classroom-WORKSHOP FULL

Presented by: Ella Metuki

Improv and theater games are a wonderful way to infuse playfulness into any setting, and a powerful tool in creating a sense of community and belonging among learners. In this session we will learn some basic improv rules, experience how they play out through games, and then reflect on how these might empower us and our learners. Each participant will have a chance to create and practice leading a short warm-up game designed for their own classroom. This is a hands-on, up-on-our-feet, learning-by-doing workshop. so come prepared to play and learn together!

The Code Within Us

Presented by: Heshy Wieder

During the “The Code Within Us''  session we will model new ways to teach about DNA and genetics. The session will include didactic methods that teachers will be able to implement in the classroom. We will share current research into the field of genetics and heritability, and we will understand this through several hands-on projects. Additionally we will discover that  DNA is a road map to ascertain genetic diseases based on genetic lineage.

Positive Influence: Understanding Student Thinking with Positive and Negative Numbers

Presented by: David Seay

This session will link teacher, student, and research perspectives on how students understand addition and subtraction operations with positive and negative numbers.  Participants will learn how students perceive these operations through a variety of distinct thinking and reasoning processes.  They will be able to leverage this understanding into the best methods, tools, and practices to reinforce this critical skill.
