The Jewish people are in a time that is dark and painful.  It is filled with uncertainty.  And yet, our history tells us that in spite of these dark and painful moments in our collective story, we emerge strong.  Our DNA is coded with not just the will to survive, but to thrive. For our students, this is a defining moment in their Jewish identity.  We don’t want that moment to focus on fear and hatred.  We want this moment to focus on the very traits that have enabled us to continue, against all odds, to be an Or LaGoyim.

Through historical sources we will learn about the promise between God and the Jewish people, ensuring our survival as a nation. When we are united we are unbreakable, and the best of our humanity is seen and felt. Through the incredible stories of first hand accounts which have already emerged from the crisis happening in Israel today, we see the courage and resiliency of the Jewish people, and the light that we can be when we embrace the middah, achdut.

Use this engaging Power Point presentation and the accompanying PDF to teach about the resiliency of the Jewish people and the incredible fortitude we have seen from the Jewish Nation during these turbulent times.

Deborah holds a BA from Binghamton University and an MA from Stony Brook University. After finishing her master’s degree, Deborah took her first trip to Israel, and immediately found her purpose. She enrolled in the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS) and immersed herself in Israeli culture. During her time in Eretz Yisrael she worked as a tour guide’s assistant traveling throughout Israel, and later for the first woman Brigadier General (res.) in the IDF, in Tel Aviv. Since that time, she’s worked throughout the Jewish world, from the Hillel Foundation where she led many Birthright tours to StandWithUS. Her passion for Israel and knowledge of history is a constant source excitement for her, especially when it comes to educating others. A highlight of her career was being a delegate for the 38th World Zionist Congress and working with world leaders on that campaign. In her spare time she enjoys nature, photography, theatre and dance.
