Purim Resources

Everyone can experience a joyful and meaningful Purim! These resources, created by Gateways' experienced special education teachers, can help young children and students with disabilities learn about the story and customs of Purim.

1. A song sheet for the song "Chag Purim," Illustrated with Boardmaker Picture Communication Symbols. Illustrating each word with a symbol helps to make content more accessible and understandable for prereaders and students with disabilities. Students can use these printouts to learn and follow along with the song.

2. A Purim complete-the-sentence file folder activity that provides an overview of the things we do to celebrate Purim. File folder activities are puzzles contained in file folders that can help children review ideas and familiarize them with Jewish objects. Since file folder activities are inexpensive and relatively easy to make, you can accumulate a large stack of them in no time! The visual nature of file folder activities takes advantage of the visual strengths of children with many kinds of developmental disabilities.

3. A Purim crossword puzzle, with an optional word bank with Boardmaker Picture Communication Symbols. Illustrating each word with a symbol helps to make content more accessible and understandable for prereaders and students with disabilities. This activity familiarizes children with the terms and names associated with Purim.
