This lesson uses the story of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and his son, Rabbi Elazar, as a lens through which to discuss the experience of social distancing due to the coronavirus. Students read the story from the Talmud and an article from the Washington Post which present a variety of reactions to extreme circumstances. At the end of the lesson, students hypothesize on the effect of the virus on the future of education. The lesson was written for high school students.
