Perfect for Yom HaAtzmaut, this activity guide is packed with projects learners can do alone or in groups to gain insight into the Declaration of Independence. The guide provides the history of the period leading to Israel's Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948, along with links to primary sources such as the Declaration and U.N. General Assembly Resolution 181, which authorized Palestine's partition into Jewish and Arab states.

The activities on Israel's Declaration of Independence include the creation of a draft declaration guided by a series of six questions; a research project on a number of the people identified in the famous photo of David Ben-Gurion reading the Declaration of Independence; the creation of a "Talmud" tractate using the text of the Declaration; the application of labels to analyze portions of the Declaration; and a then-and-now chart assessing the position of the Jewish people in 1897, 1948 and today. All of the activities are designed to encourage open-ended classroom discussions.
