A PBS lesson to discuss Amanda Gorman's inaugural poem The Hill We Climb.

This lesson examines the poetry of Amanda Gorman, the first Youth Poet Laureate of the United States, who was chosen to read her poem The Hill We Climb at the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, 2021.

Developed for 6 - 12 grade, the lesson will assist educators in helping students to reflect on several of Gorman's poems, understand Gorman's message, write a response to The Hill We Climb, and create connections between the poet's message and the message of the presidential inauguration, U.S. democracy, and the history of the United States.

The lesson includes connections to the Common Core Standards.
