Hebrew through Movement (HTM) is a language acquisition strategy taught in 15 minute segments in which students learn Hebrew by hearing and responding to Hebrew commands. Hebrew through Movement is an adaptation of James J. Asher’s Total Physical Response (TPR).  HTM is being used in synagogues, day schools, camps, early childhood programs and other settings.  HTM does not teach communicative Hebrew, but students can easily move on to other Hebrew forms.

The curriculum guide includes 10 foundational levels (these get students moving), holiday units, lessons for prayers and blessings and more.

On the HebrewThroughMovement.org website, you will find links to:

  • A video that explains HTM.
  • A free-to-download curriculum guide (the introductory pages are very helpful to directors and teachers, plus all else).
  • A link to information on the online seminar (click the "Online Seminar" tab at the top of the page). The seminar offers the skills to teach HTM, though teachers need to know Hebrew as language in advance.
