About
Bar Bahar (In Between) (2016, Maysaloun Hamoud) focuses on a trio of female Arab Palestinian citizens of Israel navigating life in Tel Aviv, their careers, and interpersonal relationships. By exploring the lived experiences of the next generation of Palestinian women in Israel, their identities, and relationships, students will deepen their understanding of Arab citizens of Israel. Bar Bahar tackles difficult topics in ways that feel humorous and accessible to American Jewish audiences and beyond.
This guide contains tools to introduce engaging programing on the complex realities of Arab citizens and Jewish-Arab relations in Israel, regardless of participants’ prior knowledge level. Background information and suggested resources for further learning are provided to help place the film in context, and discussion questions are included to facilitate discussions. This film has adult themes and is likely a fit for high school groups and older.
