How do we help students understand the factors that contribute to the strength of a democracy? How do we explore the fragility of democracy and the divides that tear at the fabric of society? In this session we will delve into these questions with attention to the ways in which educators can cultivate civic agency.
In the workshop facilitators will discuss how to:
Create a shared sense of responsibility for upholding the value of democracy
Celebrate finding strength in our differences and how our diversity contributes to a healthier democracy.
Open spaces for perspective taking and for dissenting views.
This workshop is the fourth offering in the Jewish Values in Living Democracy: Supporting students through a polarizing election cycle series, intended for educators in Jewish settings.
This resource collection, useful for educators' own reflection and learning and for older students, contains a series of text studies, tools for reflection, artistic interpretations, and activities, created by a range of rabbis and Jewish educators, providing different pathways to explore the question: How do we turn towards change?
