Through learning about and experiencing Jewish holidays, parents will reflect upon how these regular moments in Jewish time can provide a container for their and their children's’ development. This capstone addresses the needs of parents to feel educated in their role as their children’s most influential teacher of Judaism. More so, this program exists to contribute to the parents’ personal life journey towards meaning, appreciation and connection through a Jewish lens, beyond the educational role they provide for the next generation.
This capstone was written by Rabbi Rachel Gross-Prinz, 2016 graduate of the HUC-JIR School of Education, geared towards parents of students in 2nd and 3rd grade for a family education program.
Mensch-ify is an alternative learning program that is held twice a month for families with children in Pre-K to 6th grade. It is a developmentally appropriate program, built upon the parent-child co-learning experience, that combines stories, songs, art, movement, and play to provide families with the tools they need to live a Jewish life that works for them.
Living Judaism is an all-inclusive experiential learning model of Jewish Education. The purpose of the model is to engage every learner, provide carefully constructed learning experiences, build a strong identity, root students firmly in tradition, and create memories to last for years to come.
Mayim, our initial example of "Additional" Models, could be placed in a Multi-aged, Project-Based Learning, or Experiential Learning bucket. Mayim is a K-5 learning community in which depth of relationships and depth of learning are intentionally fostered and visible everywhere.
