Opening Your Heart with Psalm 27: A Spiritual Practice for the Jewish New Year is a compelling invitation to meditate on the deeper meaning of the fourteen verses of Psalm 27, traditionally read during the month of Elul and the High Holy Day and Festival season. During this time, we reflect on our relationships, choices, beliefs, and practices, considering where to make repairs, adjustments, and atonement. Opening Your Heart with Psalm 27 provides gentle guidance through this journey of reflection, offering heartfelt insight, profound translation, and an invaluable framework for meaningfully participating in this annual spiritual practice.

This guide, written by author Rabbi Debra Robbins, provides fourteen source sheets that correspond to fourteen of the Reflections for Focus (one for each verse) in Opening Your Heart with Psalm 27, designed to help unpack some of the references in the specific reflections. Also provided with each source sheet is a set of discussion questions or a learning activity designed to deepen the study of that particular verse using a variety of modalities. The materials can be used to study Psalm 27 verse by verse or as resources to deepen engagements with the Reflections for Focus as they appear in the volume.
