Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications, and Rules:

  • Nominee must work in a Jewish educational setting with children, teens (age 18 or under), or families in the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester County, or Long Island. 
  • Nominee must be age 40 or under as of July 1, 2025. 
  • Nominee must have worked in the field of Jewish education for at least 2 complete academic years. 
  • Nominee must show demonstration of innovation throughout their career in Jewish Education. 
  • Nominee must be in alignment with The Jewish Education Project's mission to inspire and empower educators to create transformative Jewish experiences. 
  • Nominee must be able to attend The Jewish Education Project’s Spring Event (evening of May 21, 2025) in NYC where the YPA winners will be recognized.

Young Pioneers Award recipients receive:

  • $1,000 Professional Development stipend (To be used within 18 months of receiving the award) 
  • Recognition at The Jewish Education Project’s Spring Event on the evening of May 21, 2025.

The Process:

  • To be considered for this award, candidate must submit a nominee form (nominee page) AND have a colleague submit a nomination form on candidate's behalf (nomination page). Both forms must be received by January 31, 2025 and can be submitted in either order.
  • The Jewish Education Project will evaluate forms in March 2025 and be in touch with candidate regarding their status. Award recipients will be publicly announced in late March/early April 2025.

  1. The Robert M. Sherman Young Pioneers Award recognizes candidates who demonstrate a commitment to new ideas and have made a significant impact on children, teens and families in the communities they serve. They push the boundaries of Jewish education, help strengthen Jewish identity in their learners, and help learners engage with the ever-changing world around them. How do you demonstrate these values in your work?
  2. In our ever-changing world, how have you responded to the moment to strengthen Jewish identity within and among your learners?
  3. The Jewish Education project provides resources and support for educators to help you flourish in your career. Have you utilized these resources? If so, how have they helped you thrive professionally?
