The theme of this year’s Young Pioneers Award is "Celebrating innovation in Jewish education."  

The Jewish Education Project will select 5 recipients for the 2022 Robert M. Sherman Young Pioneers Award. All applicants will be notified of their application status in April 2022. 


Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications, and Rules

  • You must work in a Jewish educational setting with children, teens (age 18 or under), or families in the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester County, or Long Island.  

  • You must be age 40 or under on May 24, 2022  

  • You must have worked in the field of Jewish education for at least 2 complete academic years 

  • Demonstration of innovation during the past 18 months and throughout your career in Jewish Education

  • Alignment with The Jewish Education Project's mission to inspire and empower educators to create transformative Jewish experiences   

  • History of involvement in The Jewish Education Project’s professional development programs   

Young Pioneers Award recipients receive: 

  • $1,000 Professional Development stipend  

  • Recognition in a special video premiering in Spring 2022  

The Process  

  • Candidate applications will be reviewed by The Jewish Education Project staff and lay leaders in March and April 2022

  • Candidates will be notified of their application status in April 2022

About The Award

Robert M. Sherman

The Young Pioneers Award is named for Robert M. Sherman, the CEO of The Jewish Education Project from 2007 until July 2019. During his tenure, he launched the Young Pioneers Award and several new initiatives at The Jewish Education Project. Since 2012, the Robert M. Sherman Young Pioneers Award has recognized 45 Jewish educators from greater New York that push the boundaries in Jewish education. Recipients work in day schools, camps, youth groups, supplementary schools, community centers, seminaries and in foundation settings.
