“IN MY OPINION” - Cultivating Israel-focused Teen Conversations:

Congregational/part-time Jewish educational settings have struggled to create meaningful Israel

learning experiences that offer students enough context to understand the complexities of Israeli

society and political choices. While there is never enough time in a part-time setting to delve deeply into

this challenging arena, this unit was designed to bridge between the relatively simplistic learning about

Israel from earlier grades and the more complex understandings that will develop in college. Thus, the

goal of this unit is to nurture teens’ abilities to offer personal opinions on Israel-related issues. These

teens will:

  • Gain knowledge and background
  • Locate information and begin to understand a source’s perspective/bias
  • Articulate a multiplicity of thoughtful responses/perspectives
  • Define and support a personal opinion or stance on key issues
