Long Island Educator Circle

Loen Amer has been an experiential Jewish educator working with teens since she was one herself! She has served at Temple Israel of Great Neck as the Director of Teen and Community Engagement, and at Bet Torah in Mt Kisco–first as their Director of Youth Engagement, and then as their Director of Experiential Learning for Children and Teens. Loen has also worked for Ramah Israel, the Hillel at Hofstra University, Woodbury Jewish Center, and Temple Beth Sholom in Roslyn Heights. 

Loen has a voracious love for lifelong Jewish learning, and most recently studied Torah le’shmah, Torah for its own sake, at the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. She lives on Manhattan's Upper West Side and enjoys baking and reading.

Rabbi Debra Bennet serves as the Director of Jewish Life and Learning. She is excited to bring opportunities for Jewish connection as she collaborates across departments and enriches our programming with Jewish culture and values.

Rabbi Bennet was born and raised in New Jersey. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and Women’s Studies.

She attended Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) from which she received rabbinic ordination in May 2007.

Rabbi Bennet served as the Rabbi Educator at Temple Beth Torah in Melville and the Associate Rabbi of Tempe Chaverim in Plainview.

In these capacities, she has created and fostered teen programming, planned exciting learning opportunities for all ages, and striven to create opportunities for connection to Judaism and the Jewish community.

Ivy Schreiber is the Managing Director, Professional Learning and Growth at The Jewish Education Project. Her current work focuses on supporting Jewish educators towards adopting new models that lead to thriving and are responsive to today’s learners and families. Prior to The Jewish Education Project, Ivy worked at B’nai Jeshurun (BJ) in NYC for a decade, where she served as the Education Director, and also has experience in Jewish camping and as a consultant to synagogues. Ivy holds an MA in Jewish Education from the Davidson School at JTS, is an alum of the Leadership Institute, and is a Wexner Field Fellow. Ivy lives in Westchester with her husband and three children.
