Text Study

In an election season, we reflect on the participatory nature of democracy and the vital role of everyday citizens in the continual formation of our society. It is also a time to lean into essential skills of relationship and conversation.

With that in mind, Pedagogy of Partnership is pleased to share with you this text study, "A Community to Which We Belong," which gives us a chance to go back in time to 1789 and listen to a sermon given to a New York City Jewish community as it considers the hope and responsibility of living in a society  governed by a Constitution securing important rights.

This is designed as a havruta/partner learning experience  that can be used in various ways within your community - in the classroom, at a faculty or department meeting, a lunch and learn, or even in your own personal circles. It is targeted for learning with teens and adult learners and includes a number of supporting resources like vocabulary help and historical context notes.

We hope it provides the opportunity to engage and wrestle with some big ideas, to get to understand one another more deeply and to help us think about each of our own ways of participating in democracy.
