Questions? Learn more about the day:

When and where is the Reimagining Israel Education ARJE Seminar taking place?
  • At a Philadelphia downtown hotel, December 10, from 8:45 am -1:00 pm.
  • The location is adjacent to the URJ Biennial, Biennial registration is not required for this event.

What does the workshop cost?
  • The Jewish Education Project is generously offering this workshop and lunch without cost to participants.
  • Some travel subsidies of up to $300 per person are available on a first-requested basis. Please email reimagine@jewishedproject.org to request a subsidy.

What can I expect?
  • We will have a light snack and coffee/tea available in the morning.
  • We will close with a vegetarian lunch.
  • Those who need to join Biennial at 2:00 pm will have time to transition.
  • The day will be focused on working as teams. While there will be some introductions and learning, our goal is to provide a process for you to dive into the work you do in your community and have dedicated reflection time.
  • You will be expected to prepare materials in advance that will allow you to reflect and document your current work in Israel education.

What should I know about the program?
  • This is focused on education, on helping youth in your community to explore and make meaning of Israel, in all of its definitions. It is not a space to share opinions about what any organizations could or should do for youth or to provide.
  • In our time together, we will begin the work. That is, we will put each of us on a path toward greater exploration. This will be a start to both learning and examining each of our programs. You will not leave with a new curriculum, concrete next steps, or required follow-ups.
  • You will leave with resources to continue the work after the workshop, invitations to further the process, and a more concrete, nuanced approach to Israel education.

Is this connected to Biennial registration?
  • You do not have to be registered for Biennial to participate in this workshop.
  • It will take place adjacent to the Biennial so those attending can easily be at the 2:00 opening.

Should I register if I don’t have a confirmed team?
  • Yes! We’d love to know that you are coming. Please register and, when you can, ask them to register. If you need help convincing a team member to attend, please let us know!

Who should I bring with me?
  • This workshop is aimed at the people responsible for the high-level mission, philosophy, and goals of your educational program.
  • These might be professional or lay partners: a supervisor, a clergy partner, a member of your team, a Board member or a youth professional.
  • They should understand that the work is educational, about helping youth to interpret and make meaning. They should be prepared to work on behalf of the organization, not for their own particular viewpoints, and understand that they will hear a wide range of perspectives.
  • Ultimately, your team should be aligned with you in recognizing your program’s opportunities and challenges and be equally committed to educational change.
  • Bring partners who are open to reflection and constructive dialogue, please do not bring someone who is oppositional or can only think about Israel education from the lens of what they experienced or what their children experienced.

What if I don’t have a colleague to bring?
  • That’s ok! We expect some independent participants and will build the program appropriately. A team is helpful in doing the work but not mandatory to participation.

How do I register other team members?
  • Send them this registration page!
